October 26th, 2017 - Wildcard Results

After the Wildcard results, here are the updated probabilities to advance to each round of the playoffs. In particular, New York Red Bulls received a huge Elo Rating boost (+48) for their 4-0 shutout on the road, so their overall chances went up quite a bit.

October 22, 2017 - End of Regular Season

It's the end of the regular season and the playoffs are set. Based on Elo Ratings, here are the probabilities for each team to advance to each round.

This combines last weekend's games with the three played on Saturday. Last week, New England got two good results to boost them up the standings by 36 points. Portland also saw an increase of 35 points. Despite falling 30 points, Toronto still have a fairly sizable lead on the rest of the pack.

After nearly a decade of being the de facto king of conferences, the West has very clearly been surpassed by the East this year. The Eastern Conference average of 1510 is the highest it has been since September 13, 2008.
